On 6 June 2024, the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) established the 'Technical Table for the Revision of AIFA Notes and Therapeutic Plans (PT)' to support the Scientific and Economic Commission for Medicines (CSE).
The main objective is to review the AIFA Notes and PTs currently in force to identify areas where existing regulation can be simplified, based on new scientific evidence and the adoption of alternative tools such as prescriptive guidelines.
The Technical Table will develop a preliminary document, which will reflect the operational needs and criticalities reported by prescribers in the territorial area. This document will then be evaluated by the CSE.
The Technical Table is composed of:
- Pierluigi Russo, Scientific Technical Director of AIFA with coordination tasks;
- Walter Marrocco, CSE member with the task of deputy coordinator;
- Giovanna Scroccaro, member of the CSE;
- Silvestro Scotti, Secretary General of the Italian Federation of General Medical Practitioners (FIMMG), together with two other members representing the union;
- Angelo Testa, National President of the Autonomous National Union of Italian Doctors (SNAMI);
- Pina Onotri, Secretary General of the Italian Medical Union (SMI);
- Francesco Esposito, National Secretary Federazione Medici Territoriali (FMT);
- Alessandro Rossi, President of the Italian Society of General Medicine and Primary Care (SIMG);
- Arturo Cavaliere, President of the Italian Society of Hospital Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Services (SIFO).
With this measure, AIFA initiates a review process involving the associations of general practitioners and scientific societies, with the aim of improving the quality of care.
The Technical Table must achieve these objectives within 6 months from the date of the determination.
On the AIFA website you can read the founding determination.
