Every year the introduction of thePharma Value Agenda tells how the inspiration for the theme came about and the methodology behind the construction of the content.
The Agenda has become an eagerly awaited moment of reflection for us at Pharma Value we produce it in all its stages, from the design of the contents to the graphics, we follow the printing and then manually pack each diary, attaching a personalised card to each one.
In 2023 there was a very distinct change in our consultancy work, the formalisation of the shift from singular to plural: Pharma Value in February 2023 from a sole proprietorship became a limited company.
The Agenda, in all its phases, became a moment of corporate culture building and the chosen topic became inspirational and formative. The entire Pharma Value team made their time and desire to participate available.
We started with the choice of topic, based on shared values and respect for different needs. The next steps were brainstorming, the choice of books to buy, individual reading, the return of the contents in short presentations, first written and then shared verbally, and collective reflection. The same book read by different people provided sometimes different and original inspirations. The synthesis of this comprehensive and articulated reflection became this year's agenda.
The themes of Pharma Value's 2024 agenda are leadership and participation.
These two words are closely linked, because the task of leadership is to guide people by finding the right role for each one, respecting their needs, desires and competences, promoting active participation and valuing confrontation. Because the right person can turn nothing into everything. It is true that a company is made up of budgets, procedures, business plans, real estate. But companies are also, above all, made up of people.
E the difference is made by the specificity, inventiveness, stubbornness and problem solving of those who work.
It is precisely this being seen as people and not numbers that can bring joy in doing one's job and that can breathe life into stagnant situations, which some of us experienced as a differentiating element compared to our previous job, characterised by a static and demotivating context.
To be seen as a person means to bring one's whole self to work: goals, aspirations, dreams, but also insecurities and fears. Feeling welcomed and supported, it amplifies our potential, ensures that our contribution is not limited to execution, creates space to ask questions and ask for help when needed. All this ultimately makes us grow better. And if the people in it grow, the company grows.
We reasoned about the leadership as "the ability to maintain a shared vision of the future we seek to create".on perspective as a possibility to grasp the perception of change (for each individual and as a collective consciousness), looking at different processes as a whole.
All the considerations that emerged seem to be a natural continuum of last year's theme: values. You can see what we talked about by reading the article on thePharma Value Agenda 2023.
Because without a sharing of values there can be no common vision.
What kind of leadership and participation do you experience in your work and personal context?
Our wish for the New Year is to find the right space and meaning for you, for your personal enhancement and motivation, and to be instrumental in this adventure called Life.
the Pharma Value Team
Below you can read some thoughts that people from Pharma Value wanted to share:
"Participation is indeed one of the words, one of the values that most represents Pharma Value. What I always say when I talk about the company where I work is that I feel it is mine. It is a place where I have been welcomed, trained and given the opportunity to express myself and feel part of a project.
Valeria Viola she is not only my boss but she is my leader. She is someone who has helped me grow both professionally and personally, she is a woman I have taken as an inspiration because that is what a leader must do in my opinion: be an example and an inspiration to the whole team.
Valeria has managed to share her values to such an extent that the team feels the responsibility of its leader and works hard to achieve the same goals, not just for the financial return but for a common, shared vision'.
Ginevra Giulia Mastroianni at #AgendaPharmaValue
"Starting a career can be a complex journey, but with the careful guidance of a motivated leader, it becomes a accompanied and enriching experience. A leader who goes beyond simply assigning tasks, offering guidance and support, is a key element in overcoming initial challenges and building a solid foundation for professional growth".
One of my favourite quotes that we have included in Pharmavalue's 2024 agenda is from Edgar H. Shein in his book 'The Art of Asking Questions': "Another thing we take for granted is that saying is worth more than asking. We value the ability to ask right questions but not to ask in general. Asking is an indication of ignorance and weakness, possessing knowledge is highly valued'.
Federico Tartarelli at #AgendaPharmaValue
"It is something fabulous to feel welcome but above all to be happy to be part of a team; and this is what I finally found after so many years of working in a cold and detached environment: here in Pharma Value there is a desire to collaborate, to be together and to share what one does. It is as if the figure of the 'leader' or 'boss' disappears to make room for all of us employees with our frailties and fears.
In fact, as Marzullo says in his book 'Piovono Talenti': There is one thing that makes the idea of a different 'manager' possible: the quality of relationships between people, or, put another way, trust. Where there is the possibility of showing even the fragile sides of oneself, certain that one will not be judged or belittled for it.
In Pharma Value there is precisely this, the trust and the possibility of being able to express oneself freely without being judged, which has gained me trust in myself but also in others, but above all is enriching me more and more every day'.
Valentina Liburdi at #AgendaPharmaValue
"When I hear someone talk about bosses putting themselves on a pedestal and expecting reverence for the role they hold, I realise how different the working context can be from the one I find myself in, made up of sincere relationships and friendships that do not disturb but rather give depth to professional collaborations.
While in so many contexts and discourses work is connected to sometimes toxic dynamics that seem inevitable and impossible to shake, I know from experience that one can do something different, be satisfied with it, and shape one's idea of success through the contribution of each individual person for what they authentically are.
That's why I really like the idea of leadership that Gian Franco Goeta recounts in his book 'The Imperfect Leader': 'Leadership manifests itself as an indissoluble individual and collective dance, in which various actors play, each with his or her own range of talents, thoughts, energies, and in which emotions and relationships play a fundamental role'.
In Pharma Value I feel I am part of a team, and as a freelance consultant this applies even more. We have been working together for more than four years now and I feel that I can be, but also become more myself every day. And it's very nice to work like this!"
Sara De Franceschi at #AgendaPharmaValue
"I have been working with Pharma Value for about three years now, happy to bring my skills, curiosity, the desire to analyse, simplify and share, but also my many questions, the lack of a scientific background, the versatility of literature and anthropology, the paradoxes that characterise my personality.
Working for Pharma Value means sharing a common project with commitment and responsibility, finding in people trust and authenticity, growing as individuals before than as professionals.
One of my favourite quotes from this Agenda 2024 is: 'A sense of belonging, of shared values and empathy, is a powerful stimulus to trust, cooperation and problem-solving' (quoted in Simon Sinek, Last Comes the Leader)".
